Not quite as neat and tidy as “a day in the life of…”, I’ll grant you. But the last four weeks have had enough going on to justify zooming out a bit. And if I’m honest, it’s been one of those stretches that perfectly sums up what makes TAB what it is. Fast-paced, people-driven, and always evolving.
Four weeks ago, I’d just landed back in the UK after a golfing break in Mexico. Yes, that one, the margarita-fuelled trip I mentioned in my last post. A bit of sun, a bit of golf, and just enough switch-off time to remind me why it’s important to occasionally step away.
That said, the switch back on was… abrupt.
The following morning involved one of the most brutal alarm calls I can remember. You know the kind, where your inner dialogue is reduced to “just get one foot on the floor and take it from there…”. Not glamorous, but effective.
That early start got me to Prague, where I spent three days with TAB colleagues from across the globe. Over 20 countries represented, and a few missing thanks to travel disruptions we’re all too familiar with.
These in-person gatherings only happen twice a year, and they’re always a highlight. There’s something powerful about getting that many experienced business minds in one room. You get a brilliant mix of camaraderie, challenge, and those “why didn’t I think of that?” moments.
A big focus this time was how we evolve the way we talk about what we do. TAB’s offering continues to grow, and with that comes the responsibility to ensure our messaging is clear, relevant, and genuinely useful for SME leaders navigating an increasingly complex world.
In short, less jargon, more impact.
From Prague, Mags and I headed straight back into the thick of it, our annual UK conference for franchisees.
No gentle re-entry. Just straight into supporting our network and helping one of our newest franchisees get fully onboarded in time to attend. He made it, just about, and I think it’s safe to say he got a proper introduction to the TAB way of doing things.
The feedback from the conference has been, frankly, excellent. And not because we played it safe, we didn’t.
We tackled some big, practical topics:
It was one of those events where you leave with both validation and a to-do list. Exactly as it should be.
After the conference, we did something equally important, we paused.
A team day walking in the Yorkshire Dales, followed by a long, well-earned lunch at The Devonshire Arms. No slides. No sessions. Just good people, fresh air, and proper conversation.
It’s easy to underestimate how valuable that kind of time is. It’s where relationships deepen, ideas settle, and, ironically, some of the best thinking happens.
If there’s a theme running through the last month, it’s this:
It happens in rooms full of people willing to challenge each other.
It happens in conversations that go beyond surface level.
And sometimes, it happens halfway up a hill in the Yorkshire Dales when no one’s trying too hard.
For us at TAB, that balance, between performance and perspective, is everything.
And if the last four weeks are anything to go by, we’re in a good place to keep pushing forward.
In the meantime, if any of those themes resonate, AI, leadership, growth, or just figuring out what the next right move looks like, it’s exactly the kind of conversation we’re having every day across the TAB community.
And they’re always worth having.
